About McCarren Park Tennis Courts

McCarren Park Tennis Courts is a tennis court in Brooklyn, New York. It is listed at 50 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222, which places it among the local businesses of Brooklyn that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Tennis in the United States is played on three kinds of places: public park courts run by a city or county, member clubs and country clubs with their own pros and leagues, and commercial tennis centers that sell court time by the hour. Public courts are usually free and first come, first served, with a posted limit (often 60-90 minutes when others are waiting); busier cities run online reservation systems with a small fee and a permit for the season. Indoor courts are rented by the hour and booked days ahead in winter. Most facilities are hard courts; clay is common in the Southeast and at private clubs, and grass is rare. Lights extend play into the evening at many parks, sometimes with a coin or app-operated switch.

Brooklyn is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Brooklyn follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Nice courts, but the female park manager was blatantly discriminatory. She interrupted our game to accuse us of taking photos on court when we were doing absolutely nothing except quietly playing tennis. No posing, no filming, no disruption. Then she falsely claimed she had β€œalready warned us last week” β€” despite the fact that we were not even there last week. Interesting how certain people get treated like they don’t belong the second they step on the court.

I thoroughly enjoyed the bubble this past weekend. Prices were high (of course) but we had a blast. Timing was good, we enjoyed a full hour of gameplay, and some sorely needed wind-free tennis during NYC winter conditions. There is a small area to gather while you wait for your turn, and then you can walk right in. Water fountain available if you need it, and self-serve coffee for sale.

First time playing in McCarren Park indoor bubble and I was happy with the experience. Everyone on the courts was polite and courteous. The courts are in good shape and the lighting is above average. They have the heat on high so don’t overdress. Will be coming back for sure!

My review is solely from experience in the summer season. Nice simple courts where I could use NYC permits. Though the line is pretty long all the time so expect to wait 1-3hrs. If there are big groups of doubles then they will be blocking the courts for 2-3hrs even if there are lots of people waiting, so keep eyes on that unless you don’t mind waiting forever. They only have two night lights for just class reserved area so it will be hard to play when it gets darker. Overall the court is nice.

Not bad, considering NYC standards. The attendant is really nice. Courts well maintained. Players who frequent here are polite and respectful of reservations and dedicated court times. Two courts are available for advanced reservations online. The other 5 courts you need to sign up for. I'd say 4 out of 5 times, I have no problem getting a court on a Saturday morning.
